This print is beautiful. It's a commonly depicted subject, but it is very special. The composition, tonal quality, and movement are exceptional and evocative. The piece is true to it's title... breathtaking!

I have wanted this for my pro life bulletin board at my Catholic Church and I wasn’t disappointed. It is beautiful and it has so much meaning put in a picture. A picture speaks better then words and this picture says it all. Thanks
Artist's Description
The Downy Woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens) is a small-sized woodpecker measuring about 6.75 inches in length and about 0.95 ounces in weight. Its preferred habitat is in deciduous forests in North America. In winter, some may migrate south. They nest in tree cavities, and in winter roost in tree cavities. Adult Downy Woodpeckers have mostly black plumage on their upperparts and wings, white on their throats and bellies, white spotting on their wings, white bars above and below their eyes, and red patches on the back of their heads (adult male birds). The Downy is almost identical to the larger Hairy Woodpecker, except that the Downy has black spots on its white tail feathers and a shorter bill. They forage on tree bark for insects, and also eat seeds and berries.
This Downy Woodpecker foraging on the bark of trees on a winter day was photographed at Tods Point Park, in Greenwich, Connecticut on 2-13-2018. I used a Nikon D850 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/4 VR2 lens to c...
