Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Materials Used: 140lb. Watercolor paper, gloss polymer medium, acrylics, Pale tracing paper, sheet music, plant seeds, Downy woodpecker feathers, off-white cheese cloth, found leather with cross, rub off letters, Old book page altered with acrylic paints, wax crayons, acrylic glazing medium, watercolor pencil, resister parts, black waxed book thread sealed with a layer of UV satin varnished.
Meaning behind the art:
I wanted to do something different as of my approach to starting, break my own rules of process. I applied gloss medium and dropped on the cut strips of tracing paper and sheet music along with the plant seeds. Let it dry on the surface then used my tack iron to flatten it down. I added some off-white cheese cloth with a good layer of wet gloss medium below to hold it in place. I had to set the hair dryer on it to speed up the drying process. After all layers were dried, I applied a layer of glazing medium and acrylic’s black and raw umber. Brushed it on an...
Bio Laura Lein-Svencner was raised in Downers Grove IL not far from her grandfathers farm and resides now Darien Illinois for the past 30 years. Shes continued with her personal studies in drawing, printmaking, sculpture, papermaking and collage. Seeking inspiration from one artist to another, Laura has pursued her love of paper; this steady pace of exploration has led her to become a member of many local and international collage groups. She also co-founded the Midwest Collage Society which exhibits throughout the Midwest region. Her works has won many awards and most recently the 27th Annual Juried Exhibit with the National Collage Society.
